Dentures, both partial and complete, are an excellent tooth replacement option that allows you to smile again with confidence. Functionally, dentures are very much like natural teeth, and you will be able to speak well again, chew properly and maintain a healthy diet because there are very few restrictions on the kind of food you can bite down on while wearing dentures.

Failing to get your dentures fixed or otherwise replaced when they get broken or damaged will rob of you of the chance to enjoy all these benefits.  That said, what can you do when your dentures get damaged? What shouldn't you do?

Denture Repair Dos

1. Set An Appointment With A Denture Repair Specialist

Whether it's the dental office that fitted your dentures or another dentist, get in touch with a professional who can professionally assess the extent of the damage and provide a solution as far as repairing or replacing your dentures.

2. Gather All The Pieces

Depending on the nature and extent of the damage, your dentist may still be able to use parts of your denture, even those which may have broken off, during the denture repair. If you can find them, be sure to keep all the parts together and take them with you to your appointment.

3. Take Them Out

Wearing broken or damaged dentures can have serious consequences for your health, and that is why you are better off not putting them back on until after the repair. Again, using the broken dentures may only worsen the damage, effectively increasing the amount of work that will go into the denture repairs and, by extension, how much the repairs will cost you.

Denture Repair Don'ts

When it comes to broken or damaged repairs, there is one primary don't, and that is a very strong caution against attempting DIY repairs. Whether it's using off-the-shelf home repair kits or the adhesives that you can easily find at any store, DIY denture repair is never a good idea. More likely than not, you will end up damaging your dentures even further, which may mean you pay more when you do get them to your dentist or you cause so much permanent damage that a denture repair is no longer an option and you have to get a replacement.

If your dentures get damaged, find a dentist who offers comprehensive and quality repair services. You may be able to go back home with your dentures after repairs or have to wait a couple of days, depending on the extent of the damage.
